KESD Students Compete at National Civics Bee

April 17, 2025

Students From Miller's Run and Burke Town School were chosen as finalists in the Local Chamber of Commerce's National Civics Bee®.

Marshall May, eighth grade Burke Town School student, won first place, earning $500!

The event took place at Lyndon Institute on April 14, 2025, and the keynote speaker was Joe Benning. The director of our local chamber of commerce, Loralee Tester, guided KESD, Christ Church, and Clarendon essay finalists through two rounds of multiple choice questions, testing finalists' knowledge of our country's founding principles.

Ten fine citizens are advancing to the state competition hosted by Vermont's Chamber of Commerce on June 25th at the Barre Opera House. Eight of the ten finalists are from KESD! These students have gained knowledge about American democracy and practiced engaging respectfully and constructively along the way.

Congratulations to all of our participants:

Damien Strang, Marshall May, Elli Straffin, Brooklyn Rivers, Bentley Allard, Jaxyn Gilman, Jayce Grayson, Averill Scott, Josh Curtis, Aiden Clark, Makyia Whitcomb, Emilia Brothers, Taylor Peck, Sam Batchelder, Ally Brown, Scotty DeLaBruere, and Logan Pierce

A huge shout out of appreciation to all of the adults who supported the students along the way and helped to make this event happen right in our community!
