Meet Valerie Lemieux, Sutton School Nurse!

Valerie Lemieux, also known as Nurse Valerie to her students, has worked at Sutton School for three years. Prior to joining the Sutton School team, Nurse Valerie worked as a nurse in labor and delivery which she loved, but was looking for a change. She really enjoyed the student nurse rotation in the school setting and applied for a school nurse position. Nurse Valerie loves school nursing just as much as labor and delivery. As a bonus, she has even had the pleasure of getting to know some of the children that she met at their birth! When Valerie is not working, she likes to spend time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and big extended family. She loves gardening, boating, walking on the beach and sunsets.

Nurse Valerie was asked a series of questions regarding her time at Sutton School. Below are some of the questions that were asked, followed by her answers.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working in a school?

Answer: "The students; it’s like having a hundred grandchildren. I have a good relationship with all the students".

Q: What have been some of your favorite moments as an educator?

Answer: "I love inspiring some students to want to become a nurse.  Bringing the Northern Counties Dental Clinic to Sutton School has been a huge success.  My favorite moments are numerous from supporting students who have broken bones, cuts, sprains, and all kinds of sickness to teaching children healthy habits such as flossing and brushing their teeth and hand washing".

Q: What are you looking forward to about this school year?

Answer: "I am looking forward to becoming an instructor for CPR and helping KESD reach their goal of getting 6th and 8th graders certified in CPR, first aid, and AED use. I would also like to initiate a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan at Sutton School.  There are bills working their way through National and State legislation that would require Cardiac Emergency Response Plans in all schools.  I want to be prepared for any emergency that might happen at school".

Thank you, Nurse Valerie, for your dedication to your students and to Sutton School!
